Classification and characteristics of super practical CNC engraving tools
Due to the special nature of CNC engraving, the type of tool used is relatively simple. It can be said that more than 90% of the tools used in CNC engraving can be classified into the category of milling cutters. However, according to the geometry and use characteristics of the tool, these tools can be divided into many types, including taper flat bottom knife, flat bottom knife, bull nose knife, ball head knife and so on. Below the Chen Chan foam engraving machine manufacturers to briefly introduce the characteristics of various types of tools.
(1) Taper flat bottom knife, also known as taper knife or cone knife. The bottom edge of the cone cutter is commonly called the tip of the knife. It is similar to the bottom edge of the flat knife. The cone knife is inclined at a certain angle. The cone knife looks like the bottom edge is thin and the upper part is thick, which makes the cone knife have a smaller bottom diameter. (Minimum to 0.1MM or even 0.05mm), and can have better strength (because it has a certain taper). Due to the above characteristics, the taper flat bottom knife has the widest application range in the entire engraving industry.
(2) Flat bottom knife. The feature is that the blade is the same. From the form, it is divided into a spiral milling cutter (single-blade, double-edged, multi-blade) and a double-blade straight slot milling cutter. The flat-bottomed knife has a large engraving area and high efficiency. Mainly used for roughing and contour cutting.
(3) Bull nose knife. The bovine nose knife is made up of a rounded corner on the bottom edge of the flat-bottomed knife. The bovine nose knife is further divided into a spiral bovine nose knife and a double-edged straight-nosed beef nose knife. The bull nose knife can be thought of as having two small rounded corners on each knife tip based on the flat knife. Thanks to the rounded corners, the strength of the tool tip is increased. Compared with flat-bottom knives of the same diameter, the nose knife can improve the tool life in the processing of hard metal materials. The bovine nose knife has a large engraving area and high engraving efficiency. It is mainly used for roughing and processing, and sometimes it can be used for the processing of curved surfaces and plane joints.
(4) Ball head knife. The ball-nosed knife is referred to as a ball cutter. From the form of the ball, it is divided into a spiral ball head and a double-blade straight groove ball-end knife. The ball-end knife is generally used for surface radius machining and surface finishing, and is not suitable for plane machining.
